Surviving a Wedding Day Disaster
If it hasn’t happened yet, it’s bound to occur at some point in your career- the inevitable wedding day disaster. That one wedding where everything seems to go wrong and you have a daydream of walking off and never looking back. It happened to me not too long ago – oh the tears I wanted to cry – but I survived and so will you. To be quite honest there were huge red flags and warning signs prior to the rehearsal and now, looking back, the rehearsal had foreshadowed the next day. However, although the wedding was a living nightmare, I finished the job with a smile on my face and saved the tears for the drive home.
On that awful drive, I contemplated what I could have done differently, what was good and what was bad. Writing this piece is a little scary for a few different reasons:
But even with all these things, I feel it is necessary to discuss the ways to move on from such a life altering experience. I am all about learning from mistakes because that is how you become better.

Thanks Debbie this really helped me,.
I am so glad Vanity!
Thanks for posting this article. We all have bad days and regrets no matter the experience level!
Thanks Alisha!
Last year I had a wedding that I thought went well and didnt have any indication from bride thst she was unsatisfied. Then months later, she wrote a bad review on a wedding site. I was devastated and now skiddish. I recently done a day of, I felt lost because the bride didn’t provide me very much to go on of her plans. I also felt later maybe I was in too many pictures and too much of the video. I have to let it go, it’s done now. But how do I feel more confident after a bad review? I question everything about myself now, good, but if things don’t go as planned, I think it’s another bad review coming. I went to other reviews of planners in our area, they also have at least one bad review as well.
Pamela, thank you for your comment. Every planner has made mistakes, especially in the beginning. Each wedding and client are so different that it takes time to learn the ropes and how to ensure you can meet expectations for your clients. This is a really great post. Thank you for it. I’m just starting out in the wedding industry and feel like it’s a bit of a battle sometimes so it is very reassuring to know that other planners have difficulties too. It’s great advice and I’ll definitely be taking it.
So true Regina. We all start at the beginning and it’s a constant learning process. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for sharing Debbie! I hope it helps other planners out there!
Thanks Valerie. Your post is already popular and so many of us can relate!
