What is your typical day like?
I start every day around 9am and go through my emails and messages. Then I open up my master “To Do List” and check off any tasks which need completed that day. I’ll often spend a few minutes updating my social media if I have the time, then I’ll begin work on one of my client’s weddings. This could involve administration, research, going over contracts, visiting venues or meeting with vendors. Since many of my clients work full time, I often have meetings over Skype in the evenings. I take time off when things are quiet and work around my client’s schedules.
How did you get started in the industry?
I had always planned to go to University to study Fine Art, but after taking a summer job in a busy conference and events office, I decided to spend a year working before heading off to further my education. As luck would have it, I was quickly offered training and promotion to an event management role and I jumped at the chance. I’ve never looked back and have been planning events and weddings for almost 20 years now. I love my job and could not imagine doing anything else.
Where do you find design inspiration?
I read endless wedding blogs, follow lots of inspirational people on Pinterest and read plenty of magazines. Every time I see an idea I like, I save it and I even keep a scrapbook which I flip through for inspiration. I’m a big fan of Martha Stewart Weddings for cute ideas for detailing and décor but undoubtedly the best ideas come from brides themselves. Blogs I love for real weddings are Love My Dress and We Fell In Love. Inspiration can also come from every day life, from the couple themselves, their favorite books or an event which holds meaning for them. With each couple I try to find their identity and capture that in their wedding design.
What are your favorite online resources for your business?
Pinterest, Junebug Weddings, Martha Stewart Weddings, Love My Dress, Rock and Roll Bride, Style Me Pretty, Rock My Wedding, We Fell In Love, The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners
